MasterCard® PayPass™ is a new contactless payment feature currently available on ANZ MasterCards allowing you to pay for small purchases (NZ$80 or less in New Zealand but transaction limits may vary overseas) without swiping, dipping, signing, or entering a PIN at any participating merchant.
Convenience
It’s like having exact change, so you don’t have to worry about carrying around a lot of cash and coins. There’s no need to dip or swipe your card in the terminal. Simply tap your card against the MasterCard PayPass reader and you’re done! When using your ANZ MasterCard, PayPass transactions are automatically charged to your credit card account. They cannot be processed to any nominated savings or cheque accounts.
Speed
You won’t be held up while signing or entering a PIN – which makes it the faster way to pay for small purchases (for NZ$80 or less in New Zealand. Transaction limits may vary overseas).
Security
Unlike some other payment methods, you have full control of the card because your card never leaves your hand. Plus, we have round-the-clock monitoring provided by ANZ Fraud system to help protect your card. You’ll also be covered by MasterCard’s Zero Liability* protection should fraudulent transactions occur, provided you haven’t contributed to the loss in any way and you notify us that your card has been lost or stolen within a reasonable time.

You can use your MasterCard PayPass card at any PayPass merchant terminal – simply follow the steps below.
Look for the MasterCard PayPass logo on the reader.

Once the merchant has entered the amount to pay, follow the on-screen prompts and tap your card against the contactless reader.
Wait until the reader beeps and the lights illuminate and then remove your card and you’re done. If you’d like a receipt then simply request one.

Even without having to sign or enter a PIN, MasterCard PayPass transactions are still as secure as all other payment methods using your ANZ MasterCard. That’s because it uses secure encryption technology and the same, reliable payment network as regular card transactions – making it just as secure.
If our ANZ Fraud system notices unusual purchasing activity on your ANZ credit card account, the ANZ Fraud team will be alerted, they’ll block your card so no further transactions can be made and then contact you to check that everything is in order.
Also MasterCard’s Zero Liability*protection means you won’t be liable for unauthorised transactions, provided you haven’t contributed to the loss in any way and you notify us that your card has been lost or stolen within a reasonable time.

And you won't have to worry about carrying cash and coins around. It’s fast and ideal at places where speed is essential, like at stadiums, fast food and more. Plus, you'll still be able to swipe or dip your card whenever you need to.
Any retailer who displays the MasterCard PayPass logo and the contactless symbol
can accept contactless payments. For a full list, use this MasterCard selector. Of course, you'll still be able to swipe or dip your card at millions of locations worldwide, wherever MasterCard is accepted.
You should tap your card within a couple of centimetres of the contactless symbol on the contactless reader.
You can use MasterCard PayPass for any amount. But if the purchase is over NZ$80, you will need to enter a PIN in New Zealand. Please note the purchase amount overseas will vary from country to country.
While standard transaction fees will apply, you won't be charged any extra for using MasterCard PayPass to pay for your transactions.
You will only receive a receipt if you request one from the retailer or when you are required to enter a PIN or sign the receipt.
You'll hear a beep and a message will be displayed confirming that your transaction has been approved or declined.
No. The retailer must have firstly entered the amount for you to approve, and then your card has to be tapped against the PayPass reader.
